Power on Display
You’ll love the crisp 17-inch active-matrix display with brilliant 1680-by-1050-pixel resolution. That’s more than 1.7 million brilliant pixels on the screen simultaneously, with room aplenty for your menus, toolbars and palettes. A megawide viewing angle enables you to share work with clients and small groups. And thanks to its built-in dual-link DVI support and 128MB of graphics memory, you even have the option of connecting your PowerBook to Apple’s breathtaking flat-panel displays, including the massive 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display.
As Smart as It Looks
As if that’s not enough brilliant engineering, this sleek wonder is only 6.9 pounds and a mere one inch thin, making it the lightest and one of the thinnest 17-inch portables on the planet. Housed in a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy enclosure, the 17-inch PowerBook G4 is resistant to stains and scratches. A flat-out miracle, this notebook is perfectly smooth on all surfaces, with no doors, protruding latches, levers or external buttons to accidentally press or break and no sharp edges to catch on clothing.
Leading the Charge
Now you have plenty of power to keep you working (or playing). The 17-inch PowerBook comes with a lithium-ion battery that provides up to 5.5 hours of battery life, depending on system configuration and usage. That’s an hour more than its predecessor.
Built for Speed
The 1.67GHz processor delivers tremendous performance with an advanced cache memory architecture that provides ultrafast dedicated memory that massively enhances throughput. The 17-inch PowerBook G4 comes with 512MB of fast DDR2 SDRAM, expandable to 2GB, allowing you to run several RAM-hungry applications simultaneously — or to store an entire graphics project in main memory for fast manipulation of images. And for faster storage of those huge files, there’s now a 7200-rpm 100GB hard drive option. (1)
Feel the Double-Layer Burn of SuperDrive
Your PowerBook G4 with SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) now supports double-layer DVD burning. With included iDVD software, you can burn DVDs that can be played in most consumer DVD players.(2) You can also use the preinstalled iTunes software to burn your own CDs, or the Disc Burner feature in Mac OS X to burn data CDs. The 8x SuperDrive reads DVD titles and burns DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs.
Lighting Your Every Keystroke
Planes, trains and the dim recesses of a convention center don’t always offer the best lighting conditions. But low-light conditions won’t dim your chances of using your PowerBook productively. With its ambient light-sensing system — the sensors are tucked away under the speaker grilles — the PowerBook senses the light available to you and automatically adjusts both the brightness of the display and the level of keyboard illumination. (Of course, the DIY crowd can always use the F8, F9 and F10 keys.)
Graphics, Designed
The 17-inch PowerBook G4 comes turbocharged with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics processor with 128MB of DDR SDRAM. Featuring a number of cutting-edge graphics technologies, including programmable pixel and vertex shading for lighting and shadow effects, the Mobility Radeon 9700 dramatically enhances all aspects of your visual experience in every application.
Port Authority
Apple’s PowerBook is one of the few notebooks to offer built-in FireWire for connecting external hard drives and DV cameras. And Apple ups the ante, effectively doubling data throughput, with FireWire 800. The 17-inch PowerBook G4 has two FireWire ports — one for the hundreds of FireWire 400 peripherals already available and the other for the coming generation of FireWire 800 peripherals. In addition, the PowerBook G4 offers the fastest connection to USB peripherals with two USB 2.0 ports.
