Samsung SCH-a670

imageThis cell phone promises to deliver great video and picture quality in addition to high-speed internet access and text messaging. It has a personal planner and voice dialing capabilities also. The phone was designed for people who want to communicate and quickly access information on the go.

The video and picture quality is far better than camera phones i have used in the past. The phone took clear, concise pictures at the scene of a car accident and it was fairly easy to email those photographs to my recipient. Users can assign pictures to names stored in the address book. So they can literally see a picture of the person calling. The full-color screen has vivid graphic display. The screen also displays up to 8 lines of text and allows for scrolling. Short messages display as large type making it easier to read.

The planner, to-do list, and memo pad make organization easy. The reminder alarm goes off repeatedly until users shut it off to ensure that they do not miss an event. The address book organizes contact information really well. Instead of scrolling three seperate entries for “Mary’s” work, cell, and home number. There is one entry for Mary. Once a user selects her name he can choose which number to call.

There are a few quirks with the functioning of the Samsung SCH-a670. When searching for an entry in the address book, unless users scroll the entire list of names, they are only allowed to see the names of the particular letter they enter. For example, If im searching for “Mary”. I can only see all of the names beginning with the letter “M”. If I change my mind and decide to call “Ned”, I cannot scroll down. I must back out and re-enter the letter “N”. It’s not that bad, just a little annoying.

The short-cut keys are not very customizable. Of four, three are already pre-set. Internet, messaging, and Get-It-Now (Verizon) are already mapped out for you. The fourth short-cut key is the users choice. This inconveniences users like myself who would rather have a shortcut to the planner and calculator versus the internet and Get-It-Now.

Overall, the Samsung SCH-a670 is a good value. The phone is only $50 after rebate with a 2-year contract. The pictures are great and it helps me stay organized for doctors appointments and such. I highly recommend it for someone who needs a basic phone and not a computer/satellite dish/movie theater.
